Coronavirus has created a strange situation for a lot of people. Weeks or months at home have given you the space to think about what you really want out of life. Now that you’ve gone back to work the commute seems even less appealing than it did before.

It is possible to escape the office and find a whole new way of life. Whether you want more flexibility, better pay, or a new challenge. In fact, according to Joblist’s survey, 77% of people were happier after finding themselves a new role. To help you on your way, here is our guide to how to change career, no matter what situation you find yourself in.

Take a long look at your current job

It’s easy to feel trapped in your job. You need the money and you don’t feel like you have the qualifications or experience to do anything else. The truth is, none of that matters. There is a better option out there for you and you can make it a reality!

The best place to start is by taking a long, hard look at your current role. What, exactly, do you want to change? Is it the office politics, the commute, or that one boss who doesn’t like you? Do you feel like you just don’t care about it enough and want to do something more meaningful? Perhaps you want to earn more money, or you hate juggling time off to cover school holidays. Write it all down, then see if you can pick out the 5 most important things.

Do a bit of daydreaming

The next step is to imagine your dream lifestyle. One that addresses all those top five problems, and maybe more! What would your days look like?

Discover your dream role

Now it’s time to do a bit of research. What could you do that would make your daydreams a reality? Don’t forget to think outside the box. Would run your own business gives you the flexibility you crave? Perhaps there’s an industry you’ve never considered that might offer the perfect blend.

Find training courses that fit with your goals

Often when people think about how to change career they imagine going back to school. They picture spending years studying, struggling to get by with a part-time job. Some people worry that they wouldn’t enjoy studying after a break, or wouldn’t be any good at it.

There are other ways. Look for training courses that take place online or over a few days. Some are even held at the weekend! That way you can get a new qualification before you leave your current job. It doesn’t have to take years either, often you can be qualified in a few weeks.

Make sure your course covers everything you need. For example, our hair extension courses don’t just cover everything you need to know to fit extensions. You also get a full professional kit. Not only that, but you’ll also have training in how to set up and market your new business. Plus ongoing support in our graduates only Facebook group. That means you’ll be ready to get started with your new business right away. Much better than taking several different courses to cover all the various topics.

Make it happen!

Now that you know how to change career, the vital thing is to actually make it happen! You can easily get stuck researching and dreaming but never make the leap. The trouble is, you’ll turn round in a few year’s time and wonder why you’re still stuck in that horrible job!

If you really want to make a change then set a deadline and take the first step today, you won’t regret it!
